Supporting Create

Elizabeth and Rory are delighted to announce their support of a brand-new partner, Create.

Create celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2023 and Rory and Elizabeth are delighted to start this new partnership as the organisation celebrates a landmark anniversary and twenty years of bringing the power of the creative arts to those who need it most.

In her twentieth anniversary message, Founding CEO of Create, Nicky Goulder states

“My original vision for the charity – of a world in which everyone has access to the educational, social and life-enriching benefits of the creative arts – has remained unchanged. Why? Because People Need to Create. Creativity has a unique and irreplaceable ability to improve, enhance and upskill lives, yet far too many of the most isolated and vulnerable children and adults still can’t experience this. That’s why I started Create 20 years ago. And that’s why Create’s work is more important today than ever before.”

We know that creative arts have the power to change lives, both in the moment as people share experiences, build skills and express themselves creatively, as well as in the longer-term through creating shared memories, increased empathy and a broader worldview. Research shows that people who participate in the arts are more likely to be in good health, continue in education and engage in their communities. However, the benefits of the arts are not enjoyed equally. A fifth of young people aged 16-24 do not attend or participate in the arts and a recent study from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport found that young people’s engagement with arts and culture has been decreasing.

Create’s work targets those furthest from arts engagement.  Its participant-centred approach operates right across the creative arts.  It delivers bespoke projects in partnership with a large and diverse range of local organisations (such as Age UK, Carers Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust) that are impactful and inspirational. These are run by its professional, highly experienced artists supported by a dedicated Create project manager. We are proud to be walking with Nicky and her team on this journey.
